At least 2,000 people have died and more than 10,000 people are missing after floods ravaged Libya.

At least 1,500 people are confirmed dead in Derna alone. Cars, roads and entire city districts were washed away.
Rescue efforts in the country are complicated by the fact that it’s controlled by two opposing governments. The nation has been in a state of unrest and chaos since its former dictator, Muammar Gaddafi, was killed in 2011.
Turkey has responded especially quickly to the crisis, by sending planes full of supplies and rescue workers to Libya. While the UN and other nations have also promised to provide urgent aid, resources will now be spread thin, with a simultaneous international relief effort underway in Morocco, where an earthquake killed thousands of people over the weekend.
